Ulster Championships

Event: Ulster Cyclo-cross championships

Course Description:
This year's Ulster Cyclo-cross championships will be held at the new venue of Belfast Playing Fields in Mallusk.  Kinning Cycles has stepped up to run the event with kind permission from Belfast City Council.  The site has excellent parking and changing facilities.  The course will utilise the steep banks, steps, long grass straights and off-camber sections.



Ulster Championships:
The Ulster cyclo-cross championships is an "open" event and the organisers welcome all entries whether or not the riders are from Ulster.  

THE EVENT IS PRE-ENTRY ONLY.  There will be no entries allowed on the day.



Ulster championship medals will only be awarded to riders who satisfy the following criteria
(a) belong to a club based in Ulster, or
(b) are unattached but currently resident in Ulster, or
(c) were born in Ulster.

Note 1:
Juniors are those born in 1999 or 2000.
Note 2:
Under 14s are those born in 2003 or 2004
Note 3: Under 16s are those born in 2001 or 2002
Note 4:
M40 (male) are those born between 1968 and 1977
Note 5:
M50 (male) are those born 1967, 1966, 1965 etc.
Note 6: Women will include Junior women
Note 7: Club colours must be worn

Those riders who have taken part in the cyclo-cross B' race this season are encouraged to enter their age category race for the Ulster championships.


Team prize:
First 3 riders from an Ulster club crossing the finish line in the men's senior race.
NOTE: At least 3 teams of at least 3 riders from the same club must enter the Senior race to qualify for a team prize.

2013 Ulster team prize went to Phoenix CC
2012 Ulster team prize went to Banbridge CC
2011 Ulster team prize went to Newry Wheelers

Race licences & one-day licences
To take part in the championship categories (see above) riders must have a Limited competition licence or a Full competition licence.
No on-the-day licences or licence upgrades will be allowed.

Clothing
Riders must wear their club kit or a plain kit.  This includes on the podium.

Equipment
Cyclo-cross bicycles only for all race categories with the exception of the Under 14s and Under 16s races where mountain bikes can be used.

Sign on will open at 9:30 am on the morning of the race.

Prizes -
As this is a championship there will mock Cycling Ulster medals for the podiums.  The riders will receive their engraved medals at the Cycling Ulster Awards night in January.  No cash prizes to be given out.

Top 3 Ulster M50 males,
Top 3 Ulster Junior males,
Top 3 Ulster Under 14 males,
Top 3 Ulster Under 14 females,

Top 3 Ulster Under 16 females,
and the Ulster Team prize (Senior men's race).

Schedule:

Sign on opens at 9:30.  Course is open for practice once riders have signed on.

RACE 1: Juniors, Women, Under 14s, Under 16s
10:45 Riders will be called forward for gridding
11:00 Race start
Race length: 40-50 minutes - Under 14s 25-35 minutes

RACE 2: M40 men, M50 men
12:15 Riders will be called forward for gridding
12:30 Race start
Race length: 45-55 minutes

RACE 3: Senior men
14:00 Riders will be called forward for gridding
14:15 Race start
Race length: 50-60 minutes

Prize giving:
Prize giving to happen after each race.

Gridding
Riders will be gridded based on the Ulster CX series.

Refreshments:
There will be tea and coffee available throughout the day.  Food will be provided after the races.

Directions:
From M2 exit at Mallusk junction onto the roundabout.  Take the exit towards Antrim, Templepatrick.


Pass the Chimney Corner on the left hand side.  Turn left onto Park Road.  The entrance to Mallusk playing fields is on your left.
