Ulster Cyclo-Cross

Ulster XC Series

All Ireland CX 2017

Date: Sunday 27 November 2016
Event: Round 8 - Ulster Cyclo-Cross Series
Venue: The Jungle NI - Moneymore
Host club: Carn Wheelers

Course Description:

Jungle NI is an outdoor adventure site located outside of Moneymore - website here.

This is the first time that this site has been used to host a cyclo-cross race.  This large stretch of land has been developed over the last 10 years starting with paintball and moving into tree top walks, archery, zorbing, zip lines, assault course, glamping options as well as other team building activities.

The site has open grass areas, ponds, hilly sections, woods and trenches.  The course will begin in a large field with the main senior start heading straight up over the brow of the hill before sweeping round and exiting the first field along a gravel path.

In the next field you avoid the two deep ponds and head up onto the off-camber grass section and out into the next field.  The next field has a hay bale chicane where you can pick any line you want to get through.  The exit from this field is a steep climb up and into another field, which continues on the slope.  A loop around here and out past another pond where the terrain will be hard going on the sandy gravel area.  A fast sweeping drop down past the tractor tires and out to a gravel path. Soon you have another climb up past the pit area and, still climbing, you head up to the trees.  Into the wood for a short section before exiting back onto the track and down into the mock graveyard and church.  This is one of the paintball arenas.  You use the gravel road to exit this section, head though the gate and into the field with the tank traps.  This brings you into the field of the crosses (the macabre theme is throughout the site as it was set up for "Fright Night" over the Halloween period).  You head down through the pits and then back into the main event field which is beside the zorbing slope.  The youth courses will also be based in the main field close to some mini football pitches and the llama enclosure.   There is a large car park area across the road which is linked by a tunnel (careful if you are tall as there isn't much headroom!).  There  is an indoor centre with café, large screen TV and burger bar.  Beside the centre is a large barn where riders can prepare their bikes.
